York (Sixth Form)

York is designed to provide a pre-university experience to Stonar’s Sixth Form students. In York pupils are encouraged to be independent and to take a greater degree of responsibility for organising their time be it for study, sport or socialising.

York is home to up to 30 pupils at any one time. It is a modern building with a large comfortable common room, a kitchen, laundry, large study area /work room and a conservatory. The rooms are a mix of single and twin study bedrooms. There is a private garden which the pupils use for quiet study or relaxing during fine weather. It’s also a great venue for BBQs and summer gatherings.

York is run Mrs Lucy Noad who works to create an informal, supportive and homely atmosphere in the boarding house. Pupils living in York are also supported by Mrs Cathy McMahon who is the Assistant Houseparent, and a resident assistant. The York House team has a great deal of experience in supporting pupils though the Sixth Form and are on hand to offer advice, support, care and encouragement through the triumphs and challenges that the pupils experience during their final year at Stonar.

Although everyone is working hard throughout the A level courses, the pupils still like to have fun. Mrs Noad and Mrs Bennett, Head of Sixth Form, organise meals out in Bath, trips, activities and the infamous York House Christmas party; the aim being to foster a good mix between work and play so that everyone gets the most out of their final year at Stonar.
